With clean hands, the correct technique and a little practice, it soon becomes part of your normal routine.

Before you begin: Contact lenses sit directly on your eyes. Use lenses with the appropriate prescription and fitting recommended for you, and follow the instructions supplied with your specific lens.

Is your contact lens inside-out?

✓ Correct position

Place the lens on your fingertip. A correctly positioned soft lens usually looks like a smooth little bowl, with the edges pointing upward.

× Inside-out

If the edges flare noticeably outward, the lens may be inside-out. Gently reverse it before inserting.

How to put contact lenses in

Use a mirror and work in a clean, well-lit area. If possible, begin over a clean surface rather than directly over an open sink.

Place the lens on your index finger

Use the soft pad of your fingertip — never your fingernail.

Hold your lower eyelid

Use the middle finger of the same hand to gently pull the lower eyelid downward.

Hold your upper eyelid

With your other hand, gently hold the upper eyelid so you cannot blink while positioning the lens.

Bring the lens toward your eye

Look straight ahead or slightly upward and slowly move the lens toward the eye.

Gently place the lens

Place it softly onto the eye. You do not need to push or press hard.

Release and blink

Slowly release your eyelids and blink naturally a few times. The lens should settle into position.

Lens does not feel right?
Remove it rather than forcing yourself to continue wearing it. Check whether the lens is inside-out, damaged or has debris on it. Reusable lenses should only be cleaned and disinfected using the appropriate contact lens solution for that lens type.

How to remove soft contact lenses

Wash and dry your hands

Never remove lenses with dirty or wet hands.

Look upward

Gently pull your lower eyelid down while looking slightly up.

Slide the lens downward

Touch the lens gently with your fingertip and slide it toward the white area of your eye.

Gently remove it

Carefully pinch the soft lens between your fingertips. Avoid using your fingernails.
